Thank you for agreeing to play a vital role in the UT Arlington Greek community. The Department of Greek Life and University Events values the time, energy, and resources you commit to our students every day. Serving as a chapter advisor can be an incredibly rewarding job and our staff is dedicated to keeping you informed of local and national resources that can contribute to your success.
This site will provide information about leadership and volunteer opportunities for you and our students, program information, and various resources including university, national, and Greek Life policies. We hope that you find the website useful and welcome feedback on the site's content.
Our goal is to meet with our general chapter advisors at least once a semester and provide training for new advisors once a semester. Regular reciprocal contact is desired and strongly encouraged. All meetings will be announced in a timely manner and we would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to attend these events.
Your continued service to the Greek community displays a true lifelong commitment to your fraternal organization. We appreciate your service and look forward to working with you throughout the year.
There are essentially three types of volunteer advisors for fraternities and sororities at UT Arlington:
- On-Campus Advisors (concentrating mainly on scholarship issues)
- Off-Campus Advisors (concentrating mainly on chapter operations such as leadership, recruitment/intake, standards, etc.)
- House Corporations (concentrating on housing issues, for those groups with houses)
Greek Life supports such engaged advisors through the following:
- Providing advice, guidance and resources to advisors on a regular basis
- Providing regular communication to advisors on issues vital to the success of chapters and individual members, including the bi-weekly All Things Greek Newsletter
- Providing contact info for each set of advisors in all councils to facilitate communication
- Providing a semesterly Academic Greek Community Report (see below)
- Providing semesterly meetings of the various advisors to educate on the latest issues and to provide a forum for sharing “best practices”
- Providing a list of resources to help advisors learn about various advising and Greek topics
- Providing assistance in recruiting quality, engaged advisors including books on how to recruit and retain volunteer advisors
Working as partners, we can significantly improve the undergraduate experience for our many undergraduates, and achieve our goal of becoming the best Greek community we can possibly be.
Below are some resources for advisors. If you find a resource that you would like to share with other advisors, please send it to greeklife@uta.edu and we will post it here.
